NEENAH, Wis. (October 3, 2024) – Jewelers Mutual® Group, the insurance and business solutions provider dedicated to the jewelry industry since 1913, is taking on cybercrime with a complimentary webinar series to educate jewelry business owners and staff about the importance of cybersecurity. The series will explore the unique challenges jewelers face in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, offering vital insights and actionable security tips to help protect businesses from cyber threats.

The cyber-related topics will build upon each other over a three-week period:

  • October 10th: Understanding the Cyber Threat Landscape
  • October 17th: Protecting Your Business Against Cyber Threats
  • October 24th: Cyber Incident Response and Recovery for Jewelry Businesses

Cybersecurity Awareness Month, observed annually in October, serves as a critical reminder of the importance of staying vigilant in the face of growing cyber threats across the country. With more jewelers relying on digital tools and e-commerce, cyberattacks are an increasing concern. These threats not only jeopardize financial assets but can also compromise sensitive customer information, leading to significant business disruption and reputational damage.

The Internet Crime Report of 2023 from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center indicates that cyber-related losses have reached $37.4 billion over the past five years, with losses doubling between 2021 and 2023. Jewelers Mutual's recent survey of jewelry business owners revealed a clear need for increased education and awareness about the growing threat, and what immediate steps they can take to combat it.

“Our mission is to help jewelry businesses stay ahead of the curve by offering them the knowledge and resources to confidently safeguard their operations and train their staff,” said Grant Hansen, Chief Information Security Officer at Jewelers Mutual. “Cybersecurity has evolved from merely an IT concern – it’s now a business issue that impacts all facets of the jewelry industry. Through our webinars, cyber-related courses in our online Safety and Security Academy, and complimentary resources, jewelers and their staff can learn to protect their customers’ information by adopting robust security practices.”

Each webinar runs from 12:00-12:30 p.m. CDT and is free to the entire jewelry industry. Interested participants can learn more and register at JewelersMutual.com/cybersecurity as well as gain access to a variety of cyber-related educational offerings and resources.
